Explore Boundary Waters:
A Canoe Trip

Saturday, August 5 – Saturday, August 12, 2023
One spot available!

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) Wilderness is one of the country’s most beloved wilderness areas and features over 1,000 lakes and 1,200 miles of canoe routes. It’s also a place that narrowly escaped environmental rollbacks by the previous presidential administration, which attempted to push through mining leases that would have had irreversible effects on water quality — the Boundary Waters’ most critical resource.

Choose among two trip dates to travel alongside the Earthjustice attorneys and community members dedicated to protecting this landscape from destructive mining operations and to ensuring the health of this unique ecosystem for current and future generations. The Boundary Waters is an unparalleled setting in which to immerse yourself in nature while learning about the critical importance of protecting land and water.

Hear from local partners fighting alongside Earthjustice, meet the families behind local small businesses that rely on the outdoor recreation industry, and disconnect from screens with a canoe trip guided by Piragis Northwoods Company, a plaintiff in the case against mining leases.

Earthjustice attorneys are litigating on behalf of numerous environmental organizations to prevent sulfide-ore and copper mining that would harm the water quality and ecology of the protected public lands and waterways of the Boundary Waters. The Twin Metals and PolyMet Mines represent an ongoing threat to these waters that have long been enjoyed by Native communities, local businesses, outdoor enthusiasts, and the wildlife that call this area home. In response, Earthjustice is mounting a comprehensive legal defense for the region that would result in watershed-wide protections.
